Reita Faria Powell born on August 23, 1943 . In family of Goan , her parents are goan and lives at British Bombay (now Mumbai) . She is an Indian model, doctor . And here not last her achievements she is the absolute winner of the Miss World 1966 pageant . And she become the first Asian woman to win the event. She was the first Miss World winner who is qualify as a Doctor.
CAREER
Faria was born in Goa. After winning the Miss Mumbai Crown, she won the Eve’s Weekly Miss India contest (not to be confused with the Femina Miss India competition, won that year by Yasmin Daji).
After completion of successful one-year as Miss World, she refused modeling and films . Reita decide that instead of her modelling career she concentrated on medical studies. Reita Faria was alumini of Grant Medical College & Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals where she completed her M.B.B.S. degree. Thereafter she went on to study at King’s College Hospital, London.
Reita also judge Femina Miss India in 1998 . She was just use to come back to judge the Miss World competition on a few occasions. Reita was a judge along with the famous Demis Roussos ,where Miss World final of 1976 held in London where Cindy Breakespeare was crowned Miss World.
PERSONAL LIFE
Reita married with her mentor David Powell in 1971 . After that in 1973, the couple shifted to Dublin, where she started her medical practice. Reita lives in Dublin, Ireland, along with her husband, endocrinologist David Powell, whom she married in 1971. The couple have two children (Deirdre and Ann Marie) and five grandchildren (Patrick, Cormac, David, Maria & Johnny).
